How to backup your BlackBerry!

Backing up your BlackBerry (or any smartphone) is very important and often overlooked. If your phone were to get lost or quit you would lose ALL of your data, contacts etc. Because of this I recommend backing up your phone at least weakly or even daily. I will walk you through the basic steps.

1. First you need to install Blackberry Desktop Manager. You can follow this link to download the software. After you have downloaded the software you need to install it. Simply follow the on screen instructions and you should have no problems.

2. Now that you have Blackberry Desktop Manager you need to connect your Blackberry to your computer using the USB cable that came with your phone.

3. Desktop Manager should open if it wasn’t already open. It could take some time to install your device driver.

4. If your Desktop Software says “Disconnected” on the bottom right you will probably need to wait for the driver to finish installing. If it doesn’t change to “Connected” after a few minutes you can try unplugging the phone and plugging it back in.

5. Press “Back up now”

6. Make sure “full” is selected and press “Back up”

That is all there is to it! Now all your photos, contacts, documents and everything else on your BlackBerry has been backed up. Now if your dog eats your phone you can have your new one restored exactly the way your old one was. The only thing you will lose is what you have done since your last backup.
